Course Introduction:

Nowadays, innovation and design are recognized as strategic resources, and, for this reason, many scholars are studying the link among innovation, design, and competitive advantages as well as practitioners are looking for new frameworks and methodologies able to properly manage innovation and design. Successful Italian manufacturers operating in design-intensive industries such as Furniture, Fashion, Food, etc. have demonstrated unique capabilities to understand, anticipate, and influence the emergence of new product meanings. What consumers are looking for more and more in consumer products are new forms of psychological satisfaction that go beyond normal and simple consumption; today, more than ever, products define their own presence through the meanings that they assume, through the dialogue they establish with the user, and through the symbolic nature that they emanate. The online courses “Innovation and Design: The Italian Way” discuss the peculiarities of the Italian approach in developing design-driven innovations in several industries: Furniture, Arts and Culture, Fashion, Food, Materials, Yacht.
